Police Band

Gateshead Police Band

Gateshead Police Band circa 1870 with Chief Constable Trotter (behind large drum)

Nils Peter Lundgren, who was in Gateshead Police from 1872 to about 1880.

He was born in Sweden in 1850 and travelled to England after studying music and languages. He joined Gateshead Police in 1872 and acted as an interpreter and also played in the Police Band. He was apparently dismissed for drunkenness on duty, and travelled to America around 1882 and joined the US Army (leaving his wife and family).
